The Most Common Reasons for Divorce

What leads couples to divorce in Texas?

The divorce rate in America is high, with between 40 and 50 percent of all marriages ending in divorce.  Couples on their second or third marriage have an even higher chance of divorce.  Withstanding the test of time is challenging for any marriage.  The following is a look at some of the top causes of divorce in Texas.  If you are considering filing for divorce in Texas, contact our divorce lawyers at Stinson Moyle, PLLC as soon as possible.

1. Money

The number one cause of divorce in America is believed to be financial issues.  Money problems and disagreements about finances puts immense strain on any relationship.  Ongoing arguments about finances can lead to the ultimate breakdown of the marriage.

2. Infidelity

Adultery is responsible for the demise of many marriages.  People cheat for a wide variety of reasons, including a lack of emotional intimacy in the marriage.  It is often impossible for a marriage to recover from an affair, and as such many divorces stem from one partner’s infidelity.

3. Communication Problems

Communication is crucial in any relationship and the inability to communicate effectively can lead to arguments, frustration, and eventually resentment.  Couples can improve their relationship with building their communication skills.  However, for some marriages, a lack of communication may prove too much to surmount.

4. Marrying Too Quickly

Statistics show that couples who marry too fast and too soon are more likely to get divorced.  Marrying without taking the time to get to know one another may result in a lack of shared interests and a marriage that cannot survive.

5. Unrealistic Expectations

You enter into a marriage with a set of expectations as to what your relationship will be like.  Some partners will have unrealistic expectations as to the union.  Mismatched expectations can lead to one or more spouses being unhappy in the marriage, which ultimately causes divorce.

These are just a few of the many factors that can lead to divorce.  Divorce is a difficult subject, but for some couples it is the best option to ensuring both partners live a happy life.  Get help with your divorce so that you can protect your legal rights and achieve the best possible outcome.
